Buying Cars

Should you Buy new or Second Hand

If you have ever bought a car you will of at some point asked yourself the question on whether you should be buying a new or a second hand car.

The second hand car market is massive due to the savings you can get but it is not without it’s problems.

Buying New

When you buy a new car you generally get some satisfaction that you will not have to worry about the car breaking down and if it does the warranty will cover the repair cost.  You can generally get a good deal from the car dealership too whether this is money off, free insurance but you will always pay a premium for the car.

Buying Second Hand

When buying second hand cars you will of course always get the car cheaper than a new one but it does come with many pit falls.

The main problem is you don’t know anything about the history of the car.  You don’t know how the owner (or owners) have been driving it, did they take car going over speed bumps or round corners, have they ever been in a crash.

The list can go on and on but for many it’s a risk they are willing to take in order to save money and why not, time are hard at the moment so if you can save some money it’s a good thing.

Finding car dealerships is the easy part, finding second hand car dealers is also very easy no matter if you are looking for second hand cars in London or used cars in Durham you will always be able to find a car dealer.

After you have found the car dealer (new or old) you should always haggle.  Never pay the asking price of a car or if you are going to make sure you get some extras thrown in (free insurance, MOT’s services etc).

It’s also a good idea (when buying second hand) that you take a trusted mechanic with you, if you have a friend or a friends friend ask them to come with you to check the car.  There will be many places to look for damage or at least signed that there was damage at some point that as a normal buyer you would never look for.

They are many reason you should buy new but many to buy second hand, you will always take a risk buying a second hand car but sometimes it’s worth it.

Although you hear many horror stories about the problems people have with second hand cars you don’t often hear the good stories but of course they will be thousands of people whom have bought second hand and never had a problem.
